BENDING THREADS CABARET COMPANY

Bending Threads is an innovative collective consisting of four artists in pursuit of a new vision for cabaret. Through live musical performance themed with African-American literature they create an atmosphere to entertain, educate and inspire audiences. Since their inception in 2009, they have been making their mark on New York City by mounting nine original concert-style shows – including collaborations with Broadway artists, children’s theaters and several professional singers and spoken word artists in NYC. Bending Threads has advocated for donations towards charities, community events, and taught workshops to youth on the genre of cabaret. In 2011 alone, the company was invited by the New York Institute of Technology to give a concert for the student body in celebration of Black History month; and they successfully pioneered the first ever three-night Cabaret mini-series, entitled “Dreamscape”.

MOMENTUM REPERTORY THEATRE

Momentum Rep MRC is a non-profit corporation with the goal of offering developing theater artists, (no matter if their craft is acting, choreography, producing, directing, or stage managing) the opportunity to perform in an environment that mirrors the professional stage enough to encourage growth and foster challenge, while maintaining the qualities of warmth and community building that make those smaller theaters feel, for many, like home.  Our group derived its name because MRC utilizes serious aspiring New York City artists, offering them the opportunity to perform, direct, and produce various productions during the course of a season, while allowing them the room for growth and the momentum that is necessary in taking those leaps into the professional theater world. At the same time, it is the distinct and foremost goal of MRC not to succumb to the commercialism of the larger market, but rather to produce aesthetic, evocative productions that appeal to the life of each moment, offering both its artists and its audiences experiences that are both challenging and emotionally engaging.
